Performances will be on Friday, June 8, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 2:30 pm in the Braithwaite Theatre at Tyler Civic Theatre Center, 400 Rose Park Drive. Doors open at 6:50 pm Friday and 1:50 pm on Saturday and all seats are unreserved.
Join us as we celebrate 64 years of Tom Perryman’s life as Tyler’s leading Classic Country DJ and the 64th year of outstanding performances for Tyler Civic Theatre Center.
Be with us as we enjoy an evening of reminiscing with Tom and his wife Billie in a relaxed, up close and personal setting as they share their incredible life in the country music radio business, from their early days in East Texas, Jacksonville (KEBE), Gladewater (KSIJ), Henderson (KGRI) and yes, in Nashville (WSM). It is a truly remarkable story of a pioneer in the history of country music in East Texas when “Country was Country”.
Tom will play the greatest hits of country music’s early beginnings and relate his personal experiences with some of the greatest stars in the business; Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, Elvis Presley, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, The Browns, Johnny Horton, Kitty Wells, Slim Whitman, Ray Price and a host of others. The theatre floor will be available for dancin’ the two-step if you are so inclined.
Tom will be “on the Air” for a two hour performance, with no commercials, and one 15 minute break.
The format will include musical selections from the 1940’s to the 1960’s and feature live performances from Tribute Artists; Jake Penrod (Hank Williams), James Wages (Elvis Presley) and Allison Pharr (Patsy Cline). The music will cover the “Hillbilly” era of the 40’s and early 50’s, the “Country and Western” era of the 50’s and 60’s, the “Nashville Sound” era of the 60’s into the “Rockabilly” era.
