Meet the leading ladies: Chris Abraham as Leo, a/k/a Maxine, and Joshua Bush as Jack, a/k/a Stephanie.
It’s the mid-1950s, and these down-on-their-luck actors are tired of trying to make a living portraying Shakespeare in rural Pennsylvania. Seems the likes of Doc (Sean Holliday) and his son, Butch (Randall Harris), just don’t appreciate the Bard.
When Jack reads a newspaper item about a dying, wealthy widow, Florence (Meg Miller), who’s looking for Max and Stevie, her long-lost relatives, Leo persuades Jack to go for the gold – namely, Florence’s gold. But upon their arrival at Florence’s mansion, they discover – oops! – the missing heirs are nieces, not nephews. To portray the missing females, the guys dive into their collection of costumes – including a memorable outfit for Titania, Queen of the Fairies.
Before long, Leo is falling for Florence’s niece, Meg (Lea Holland), who’s engaged to a stuffy minister, Duncan (Roger Pharr). Jack’s enamored of ditzy carhop Audrey (Hannah Jacobsen), who’s being courted by Butch. Audrey decides her best friend in the whole wide world to whom she can safely confide her secrets is — but of course: Stephanie!
Be ready for quick changes offstage and hilarious entrances onstage as Leo/Maxine and Jack/Stephanie dash back and forth in their various personas. It’s modern farce at its fast-paced best by playwright Ken Ludwig, who also wrote Moon Over Buffalo and Lend Me a Tenor. We make no guarantees that your sides won’t ache from laughter!
John Wood directs the mayhem, with Deborah Crawford and Ray Deal as producers. TCTC welcomes as Production Partners UBS Financial Services and UBS financial advisors Nancy Cooper, Randy Kidwell, Carol Lott, Mike Sabota, and Lisa Safford.
