Education is an important part of Tyler Civic Theatre Center's mission. We provide several education programs for students of all ages. Here's a list of our current education programs.
Tyler Civic Theatre Center is pleased to announce its seventh annual New Play Festival will be held in the Rogers Theatre on Saturday, August 25, 2012. Adult playwrights [over 18] are invited to submit plays for general/adult audiences or children/teen audiences. Again this year, the Festival encourages junior playwrights [ages12-18] to submit plays for children’s theatre or for older teen audiences.
Scripts for consideration may be emailed to email@example.com no later than Monday, June 25. Scripts should be e-mailed as an attachment in an accessible format.
They may also be mailed or delivered to 400 Rose Park Drive, Tyler, TX, 75702, on or before the deadline.
The submitted scripts should include the following 3-4 statements from the playwright:
• I have paid the submission fee of $15 per script (not per playwright) by:
Check [payable to TCTC] or Credit Card at www.tylercivictheatre.com
• Please consider my script for the Adult Division or Children/Teen Division.
• I certify that the manuscript I am submitting under the title ____________¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬_______¬¬¬¬______
is my original work and has not been previously published. ___________¬¬¬____ [signature]
• For Junior Playwrights: My age is ____, and I am in the ____ grade at _________ [school]
• On the cover sheet only, the playwright will include his or her name and contact information for the use of the Festival coordinators. The playwright’s name should not appear on any other pages of the script.
The scripts’ evaluators do not know the identity of the playwright.
• The pages of the script must be numbered
Only unpublished scripts will be considered. Sections of a work in progress, such as one act of a
multi-act play, are welcome. The scripts selected to be read at the New Play Festival will be evaluated by persons experienced in community theater. In the consensus of the evaluators, content of the plays must not violate accepted community theatre standards in the East Texas region. All those submitting plays will notified by July 25 announcing the selections to be read at the New Play Festival on August 25.
A playwright whose script is selected shall cast their play and provide readers, with a script to each reader.
Each play is given a maximum of 45 minutes, with 40 minutes to read the script and five minutes for the playwright to introduce himself or herself and the readers. TCTC volunteers will time each presentation. Specific starting times for each play will be designated by the coordinators after scripts have been selected.
While rehearsals are encouraged, it is the intent of the New Play Festival that scripts shall be read, in a readers’ theatre format, and not performed. TCTC will provide stools, stands for scripts, and adequate lighting on stage in the Rogers Theatre. No technical effects or amplification devices will be used. Simple props that enhance the script are encouraged. All are welcome to attend the New Play Festival at no charge.
2012 New Play Festival coordinators are Lucinda Kittrell and Mike Hargrove.
